What this exciting new workshop is about!

I am excited to offer this new course for the first time in 2025!

I have been devoting hours in the field to developing some new ideas for shooting star trails, including one to minimise the time required!

I believe that to create great star trails (with an inspiring foreground) you have to be intentional - that is the star trails are the intended goal rather than than been incidental to shooting for another purpose eg a timelapse.

This workshop will be limited to 5 participants and will be offered in the Tharwa areas and the Cooma area (if sufficient interest).

The workshop will be deliberately timed around the new Moon so as to ensure the darkest skies possible for acquiring the trails but we will also talk about how to vary the setting if say there is some Moon.

The workshop will involve two sessions:

On the Saturday of the workshop (or other day if scheduled for a day other than Saturday): shooting the star trails in the field. Be prpeared to come with your own ideas for shots! We will discuss what happens if we shoot in different directions and will explore interesting foregrounds and light painting as appropriate. We will also avail ourselves of different options to acquire our star trails (Time: 3 hours minimum)

On the following Sunday afternoon, we will get together and then work on processing our star trails together in a group workshop, this will probably start around mid afternoon so people do not have a late night pre the working week. (Time: 2 hours minimum).
